What is FTP?

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the protocol that enables you to transfer files between computers. It is commonly used to transfer Web page files from individual's computer to the Web server hosting the Web site or to download files from the net to your computer.

There is a number of tools you can use for FTP transfer. Host.sk provides a Web-based FTP tool called WebDisk that enables you to connect to your Web server directly from your web browser. There is also a number of third-party FTP applications that you can use. Many of these can be downloaded from the Internet or purchased online. Some common FTP tools include:

  • CuteFTP
  • Windows Commander
  • WS FTP
  • Windows command line FTP
  • Internet explorer

You need

  • the name of the Web server hosting your web site,
  • user name,
  • password

The address of the host.sk's web server is:

  • Server name: ftp.host.sk
  • Port: 21
  • Mode: passive

You can upload it using one of mentioned FTP programs. Every program especially requires information as user name, password, FTP server address and the name of connection. Use following:

  • username: your host.sk's username
  • password: your host.sk's password
  • FTP server: ftp.host.sk
  • Port: 21
  • Mode: passive

Example:
Internet Explorer uses this syntax in address box:
ftp://username:[email protected]/.
To transfer your files, use just drag and drop.

If you log on to ftp.host.sk, you are directly in your web directory, so you can edit your content.

Your home (default) page is the page that displays when someone types your domain name in a browser. Your default page should be named one of the following:

  • index.htm
  • index.html
  • default.html
  • index.php
